How much CBD should I take?
Wondering how to calculate your CBD dosage?
The accent here is in ‘your’. As there is no straight, universal or standardised dosage for everyone, taking an individual approach of dosing CBD is the key. But before we explain this in detail there are some key elements that need to be taken into account.
- Measuring the CBD in a dose should be in mg, not %. This will give you a lot more precise amount.
- Individual bodyweight
- The severity of your medical condition
- Potency of the CBD product
- Body chemistry
The general rule when dosing CBD is to start low and slow.
It will take some time (or trial and error) for you to find the right dose before you experience the effects of CBD.
Considering the above points, use your bodyweight and severity of your problem as a guide listed in the below chart. (Please note the dosages are approximate and subjective due to the nature of CBD consumption.)
|Weight||Severity of condition|
|Under 10kg (25 lbs)||4.5 mg||6 mg||9 mg|
|10 – 20 kg (25 – 45 lbs)||6 mg||9 mg||12 mg|
|20 – 40 kg (45 – 85 lbs)||9 mg||12 mg||15 mg|
|40 – 70 kg ( 85 – 150 Lbs)||12 mg||15 mg||18 mg|
|70 -100 kg ( 150 – 230 lbs)||18 mg||22.5 mg||27 mg|
|Over 100 kg (over 230 lbs)||22.5 mg||30 mg||45 mg|
Determine your minimal starting dose based on your body weight and severity of your condition. Consume the suggested amount of CBD for a few days or a week to give your body time to respond. Closely monitor if there are any changes in how you feel based on the dosage you’re taking.
Increase the dosage slightly after a week or so and monitor any difference. You can continue with this process of increasing until you reach your desired dosage or the Sweet Spot. Listening to your body and how you feel is the best strategy to find yours.
You can always return to a lower dose if you felt that was working for you better.
If you are taking any medications for your condition, we recommend consulting with your doctor and seek medical advice as some drugs may interact with CBD or cause side effects.
How do you measure a precise CBD dosage?
The amount of CBD dosage depends on the type of product you use and its potency.
For example, most CBD oils come in a bottle with a dropper or a pipette, whereas CBD extract or CBD Paste will be in a tube like a syringe. A good reputable company should have the amount of CBD in mg stated for each drop or size listed on their packaging or website.
For example, if you are using Greenzania
- 500mg strength oil – 1 drop gives you 2,5mg of CBD
- 1000mg strength oil – 1 drop gives you 5mg of CBD
- 1500mg strength oil – 1 drop gives you 7,5mg of CBD
So, if you are using a 500mg strength oil and your minimal daily amount as per chart is 15mg CBD, you will need 6 drops either taken all at once or spaced out throughout the day (2 in the morning, 2 in the afternoon and 2 at night).
For the Paste products the measurement is not as simple (that’s why we recommend them for more experienced users) however there is a general measurement dose or serving size described as ‘a grain of rice’
For example, if you are using Greenzania
- 1000mg strength paste – serving of 1 grain of rice equivalent gives you 6-7mg of CBD
- 1500mg strength paste – serving of 1 grain of rice equivalent gives you 9-10mg of CBD
So, if you are using 1000mg strength paste and your minimal daily amount as per chart is 15mg CBD, you will need approximately 2 grains of rice equivalent.
When you know exactly how many milligrams of CBD are in a drop or serving it is much easier to track and find your perfect dose.
To summarise, the important thing is to start with the minimal amount based on your weight and severity of the symptoms and then gradually increase to a higher dose until you get a desired effect your body needs.
Do not be alarmed if your Sweet Spot or perfect dose is much higher than the chart shows. It is common for many people that their perfect dose will be higher (or even lower). Your dose will depend on your body chemistry too and how your body absorbs and utilises CBD once consumed.
All our CBD extracts, pastes and oils are premium quality and very potent (high concentration). They have a very natural ‘earthy’ taste (this a good sign, we promise). When placing the drop or a serving of paste in your mouth (preferably under your tongue) keep it there for at least 1-2 minutes before
swallowing. If the peppery, earthy taste is not of your liking, we recommend to either drink some water or juice after it or even brush your teeth.
The conclusion on accurate CBD dosing
We understand that many people want exact CBD dosage recommendation and we hope our chart and guide will be of help however it is useful to remember that your measurements and doses do not have to be exact and super precise. The current guidelines in the UK for the maximum daily amount of CBD is 200 mg of CBD per day. Most of us have a way to go.
